Moving Violation Causing Death/Serious Injury law discussed online, Aug. 21

The Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan will present the Traffic Safety Training Program Webinar “An Overview of Michigan’s Moving Violation Causing Death/Serious Injury Law” on Wednesday, August 21, from noon to 1 p.m. via Zoom.

This webinar will provide attendees with an overview of Michigan’s statute regarding Moving Violation Causing Death/Serious Injury, MCL 257.601d.  The course will discuss the statute, its development, the case law surrounding the statute, and the legal challenges facing prosecutors who must prepare these difficult cases for trial while seeking justice for victims with dignity and respect.  
Presented by Michigan Traffic Safety Resource Prosecutor Eric Wanink, the webinar will cover:

• An overview of the statute and case law surrounding MCL 257.601d.
• Helpful investigation techniques for law enforcement.
• Dealing with victims who have suffered injury or the loss of a loved one.
• Potential Defense Challenges.
• Case preparation for Trial.

This will be an hour long discussion that will be suitable for both law enforcement, prosecutors and assistant prosecutors who handle these matters for trial.

This course is approved for 1 hour of credit under PAAM’s recommended CLE Best Practice.
