“There is a reason we have licensing requirements for real estate agents, accountants, and other occupational professions,” Nessel said. “People need to trust those they hire to sell their home, provide property management services, or handle their finances. My department will continue to hold those who attempt to evade licensing and regulatory requirements accountable to protect the financial pockets of Michiganders.”
Davis, who operated using the business of Card Property Management LLC, entered into a contract with the owner of two residential properties in Detroit to provide property management services, including determining rental rates, marketing the properties, selecting tenants, collecting rent, and handling evictions. Davis was not licensed in the state as a real estate broker or real estate salesperson, as would be required by law to furnish such services. Card Property Management LLC, a limited liability company, was the assumed name of Card Enterprises LLC, which is similarly not licensed to provide real estate services.
Davis also told another person that she was a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in the context of electronic communication soliciting business from that person to prepare their taxes. Davis was not licensed in Michigan as a CPA.
