‘Understanding the Autistic Client’ examined online

The Criminal Defense Attorneys of Michigan (CDAM) will conduct the webinar “Understanding the Autistic Client” on Friday, October 18, from noon to 1:30 p.m.

The webinar will explore the unique challenges of defending the client with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Unparalleled characteristics of individuals with autism will be discussed and illustrated with actual cases.

Speaker Carol Weinman will look at what requires insight and attention at various stages of the criminal justice system. She will focus on:

• Potential Defenses Appropriate to the Client with ASD
• Challenges in Representing the Autistic Client
• Learning Ways to Effectively Navigate the Nuances of ASD

Weinman is an autism expert, global speaker, consultant, author and parent of an adult child with autism. She is a former Philadelphia prosecutor and criminal defense attorney recognized for her dual expertise in criminal law and autism. Weinman prepares reports and testifies at criminal and civil trials. She consults worldwide on autism with lawyers, psychologists, counselors, educators and families, and presents on autism and crime at conferences internationally.  She serves on the Advisory Board of the U.S. Autism Association.
