Attorney discusses ‘State Habeas Corpus’ in webinar

The State Appellate Defender Office and the Criminal Defense Resource Center will present a webinar on “State Habeas Corpus: The Extraordinary Writ” Tuesday, November 19, from noon to 1:30 p.m. via Zoom.

In this training, attendees will learn about the varied uses of state habeas corpus and how to use it to seek relief for clients who have been deprived of their freedom.  Attendees will leave this training knowing when, where, and how to use this versatile tool to obtain results they may not have realized were possible.

John Sims will be the featured speaker for the webinar.  After a career that included work in criminal defense, worker’s comp, employment discrimination, and more, Sims joined the Calhoun County Public Defender’s Office as an assistant public defender. He now represents indigent individuals who are charged with felony offenses, specializing in life offense cases.
