The Family Division of the Oakland County Circuit Court will celebrate the 22nd Annual Celebration of National Adoption Month on Tuesday, November 26, at 9 a.m. in the Board of Commissioners Auditorium at the Oakland County Circuit Court. Normally, adoptions are finalized in private but during National Adoption Month more than 30 courts throughout the State of Michigan will open their doors to raise awareness and to inspire more families to consider adoption.
Courthouses are not typically considered a place of happiness and celebration, however, on this day circuit and probate Judges will welcome several families to conduct and celebrate the finalization hearings for many loving children in need of permanence.
Special guests will include Michigan Supreme Court Justice Megan Cavanagh, SCAO Regional Administrator Jim McGrail, and other dignitaries to be announced later who will be on hand to witness the finalizations along with many Oakland County judges including Circuit Court Chief Judge Jeffery S. Matis and Probate Court Chief Judge Linda Hallmark.
In fiscal year 2023, Oakland County finalized 263 adoption cases. Year to date 2024, Oakland County has finalized 147 adoption cases.
