Coulter sworn in for second term as county executive

Oakland County Executive Dave Coulter was sworn in Thursday for his second four-year term, which begins Jan. 1, 2025. The brief, official ceremony took place at the Elections Division of the Oakland County Clerk/Register of Deeds Office in Pontiac. A photo capturing the moment will accompany this advisory.

Coulter stated, “As I begin my second term, I’m honored to build on the progress we’ve made to create a stronger and healthier Oakland County. From expanding access to affordable housing as well as physical and mental health care, we are creating more opportunities for everyone to help ensure the long term success of Oakland County.”

Coulter’s first term (Jan. 1, 2020 – Dec. 31, 2024) was marked by accomplishments, including:

• Passing the Countywide Public Transit Millage: Championed the county’s first dedicated funding for expanded, equitable public transportation.

• Launching Oakland80: Advanced the county’s goal of having 80 percent of working-age adults attain a post-secondary degree or credential by 2030.

• Expanding Health Services: Enhanced access to integrated health care services, addressing physical and behavioral health needs in underserved communities.

• Leading COVID-19 Recovery: Guided Oakland County through the pandemic, ensuring robust public health responses and supporting local businesses and residents.

• Investing ARPA Dollars: Strategically allocated federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to bolster public health, economic development, and community infrastructure.

• Maintaining the County’s AAA Bond Rating: Moody’s cited the county’s strong management under the Coulter administration, working in collaboration with the Board of Commissioners and Treasurer Robert
Wittenberg, as a key factor for the stable outlook.

For his second term, Coulter is focused on several transformative initiatives, including relocating county offices to downtown Pontiac. He will also work on implementing Oakland Together Housing Trust Fund projects, which will expand affordable housing options and address the county’s housing challenges, building on the success of Project DIAMOnD to equip manufacturers with 3D printers and promoting sustainability to ensure a resilient future for the county.
