On March 13, Cooley Law School’s Lansing campus recognized students in the Hilary Term for their achievements during an honors convocation.
Sukayna Almusawi, Thomas A. Gildner, Tea Hanna, and Thomas McKee were each presented with the Leadership Achievement Award, which acknowledges those students who have consistently, comprehensively, and effectively provided leadership in a variety of capacities. The award is intended to be the culmination of the recipient’s participation in leadership activities at Cooley.
Almusawi, of Chicago, Ill., received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Wayne State University.
While at Cooley, she has served as Organization of Women Law Students vice president, Moot Court Board president, Moot Court Board vice president, Student Bar Association senator, and was a member of the Environmental Law Society, Criminal Law Society, and Health Law Society. Additionally, she volunteered preparing expungements for the pro bono Clean Slate, and Safe and Just Michigan, and hosted Ask a Lawyer’s pro bono event.
Gildner, of Grand Blanc, received his Bachelor of Science degree from Oakland University. While at Cooley, he has served as Environmental Law Society vice president, Cooley Law Review associate editor, Student Bar Association senator, and graduation marshal and master of ceremony. He also volunteered preparing expungements for the pro bono Clean Slate, and Safe and Just Michigan.
Hanna, of Korce, Albania, received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Wayne State University. At Cooley, she has served as president and secretary of the Christian Legal Society, treasurer of Cooley’s Criminal Law Society, Mock Trial Board executive board member and communications director, and member of the Organization of Women Law Students (OWLS).
McKee, of Lansing, received his Associate of Applied Business Degree from Eastern Gateway Community College. At Cooley, he has served as Student Bar Association president, Cooley Law Review interim editor-in-chief, Cooley’s Scribes secretary, Health Law Society treasurer, and a member of the Mock Trial Board, Moot Court Board, and Black Law Students Association. McKee also hosted Ask a Lawyer’s pro bono event
Almusawi and McKee received the Alumni Association Distinguished Student Award. This award is given to selected graduating students based on academic accomplishments, professionalism and ethics, leadership, extracurricular activities, and post-graduation plans. The recipients are selected by the Scholarship and Awards Committee of the Cooley Alumni Association. Recipients are presented a diploma frame from the law school.
