Annual Lenten Evening of Reflection hosted by Catholic Lawyers Society
The Catholic Lawyers Society of Detroit will conduct its Annual Lenten Evening of Reflection on Thursday, March 4, at the Sacred Heart Major Seminary. The Sacred Heart Major Seminary is located at 2701 Chicago Blvd. in Detroit
The evening will begin with a buffet dinner at 6 p.m. followed by a presentation in the Cardinal Dearden Porch at 7 p.m. by Dr. Eduardo Echeverria on “Redeeming Law: Christian discipleship and the Legal Profession.”
Echeverria is an author and professor of Philosophy at the Graduate School of Theology at the Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit. He has been at Sacred Heart Major Seminary since 2003.
The cost of the evening will be $ 25. Checks should be made payable to the Catholic Lawyers Society of Detroit and may be collected at the door or sent in advance to:

‘Removing the Mysteries of Probate Court’ offered March 11 in Novi
The Citizen’s Alliance of the Oakland County Probate and Circuit Courts will conduct a free seminar for senior citizens and their families on Monday, March 11, at the Novi Senior Center from 1 to 3:30 p.m.
Titled “Removing the Mysteries of Probate Court,” the seminar will provide attendees with information on the advantages and disadvantages of avoiding probate, when and how to use a will, trust and/or Power of Attorney, how to begin probate proceedings, and when to consider use of guardianships and conservatorships.
Panelists will include Probate Register Jill Koney Daly from the Oakland County Probate Court,Senior Fiduciary Officer Teresa Sullivan from JPMorgan Chase Bank, and private practice attorney Michael Hughes from the law firm of Booth Patterson PC.
Materials will be available on trusts, estates, and the legal rights of senior citizens. Adequate time will be available for questions.

Paroled murderer guilty in 5-year-old’s shooting
PONTIAC (AP) — A Pontiac man on parole for second-degree murder has been convicted of assault with intent to murder for shooting his girlfriend’s 5-year-old niece in the face.
An Oakland County Circuit Court jury deliberated 27 minutes last Thursday before finding 30-year-old Keyon Timmons guilty on eight counts. Jailed without bond pending a March 4 sentencing by Judge Nanci Grant, he faces up to life in prison.
Authorities say Timmons and girlfriend fought before Timmons drove to the Oxford Township mobile home on Sept. 9, 2009, and shot Jordayna Barrett. The girl recovered.
Timmons served seven years and two months in prison for a 1995 killing.
Defense lawyer Fred Miller told jurors there was no physical evidence linking Timmons to the girl’s shooting.
