Lawmaker to review statute of limitations

LANSING (AP) -- Michigan Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Rick Jones says his panel will review the state's statute of limitations on certain crimes after a prosecutor says a suspect in the 2000 death of a man outside an East Lansing bar can't be charged. The Republican lawmaker from Grand Ledge said in a statement last Thursday he will look at extending the 10-year statute of limitations for such crimes as kidnapping, assault with intent to commit murder, attempted murder and manslaughter. Ingham County Prosecutor Stuart Dunnings III says police received a tip about the suspect from someone moved to report what he knew after reading a news article about the 10th anniversary of Brandon D'Annunzio's death. Police say a man punched D'Annunzio, who hit his head on the pavement and died 10 days later. Published: Mon, Jul 18, 2011
