Michigan State University selling smokestack bricks

EAST LANSING (AP) -- Here's something for the coffee table: A very large red brick from Michigan State University. For $50, MSU is selling oversized bricks from the demolition of a campus smokestack. The school's surplus store says about 100 have been sold since Saturday. The smokestack was a landmark near Spartan Stadium. It was recently demolished and hadn't been used since 1975. The smokestack was built in 1948 and bore the letters "MSC," which stood for Michigan State College. The Lansing State Journal says officials are saving those white bricks for use elsewhere. University engineer Bob Nestle says the brick sale was in response to an "extraordinary" number of inquiries. Each brick comes with a certificate. Published: Thu, Sep 1, 2011
