Speaker examines new patent law

The Michigan Intellectual Property Law Association (MIPLA) hosted a meeting featuring guest speaker Steve Auvil (far right) on Tuesday, Oct. 11, at Loccino Italian Grill in Troy.

Welcoming Auvil to the meeting were (left to right) Michelle Alamo of Dickinson Wright PLLC, MIPLA Attendance chair; Jim Stevens of Reising Ethington PC, MIPLA Board member; and Juliet R. Kavanaugh of Dierker & Associates PC, MIPLA president.

Auvil is a Partner at Benesch with offices in Cleveland, Columbus, Indianapolis, Philadelphia, Shanghai, White Plains, and Wilmington.

"I'm going to be talking about the Leahy-Smith America Invents Act which was recently passed into law on September 16th, 2011 by President Obama. It changes our patent system from a 'first to invent' system to a 'first to file' system," said Auvil.
