Man convicted in video taped assault on woman
DETROIT (AP) -- A man has been found guilty of assault, home invasion and unarmed robbery in a videotaped beating of a 70-year-old woman in her Detroit apartment building.
The Wayne County prosecutor's office says a jury convicted 49-year-old Christopher Elledge on Wednesday.
Annie Smith was attacked June 28 in a hallway. Footage from a video camera shows Smith opening an exterior door to the building on East Jefferson Avenue and letting a man inside.
Once inside, she was punched and knocked to the floor. Smith's bridge card and a credit card were taken.
The video led to widespread public anger, and a citizen's tip led to Elledge's arrest.
His sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 19.
