Oakland County officials encourage everyone to 'Walk for Warmth'

On Saturday, Feb. 11, beginning at 8 a.m. Oakland County Commissioners will join Oakland Livingston Human Service Agency's (OLSHA) 22nd Annual "Walk for Warmth" event at its new location in the Great Lakes Crossing Outlets located at 4000 Baldwin Road in Auburn Hills. As OLSHA's Public Sector Board Members, Oakland County Commissioners Beth Nuccio, Gary McGillivray and Kathy S. Crawford encourage all residents to come out and walk for this worthy cause. "We have many families in our community that need a hand up and OLSHA has traditionally been able to provide that hand. 'Walk for Warmth' is OLSHA's largest fundraising event and is a way that all of us can give back to our communities. The Walk is fun and enjoyable for all family members and will greatly help this organization. I look forward to walking with my colleagues and family," stated Nuccio. She will be walking, along with Oakland County Commissioners Gary McGillivray, Thomas F. Middleton, Jim Nash and Jim Runestad. "Walk for Warmth" is an annual fundraising event that has raised money for OLHSA's Emergency Utilities Assistance Fund to assist those in need with utility bills. Since its inception in 1990, more than $850,000 has been raised to help provide heating assistance and keep area residents safe. Anyone interested in "Walking for Warmth" can register at the Bass Pro Shop beginning at 8 a.m. and make donations to help "Walk for Warmth" reach its $180,000 goal for 2012. "This organization (OLHSA) does a wonderful job helping folks in need due to job loss or those having problems of some kind. A few years ago, I was in that situation after being laid off after 29 years of work, so I know what it's like. 'Walk for Warmth' helps people pay their heating bills during the cold months when they may be struggling. If anyone would like to help this cause, please give me a call at (248) 589-9207," stated McGillivray. For addtional information, go to www.olhsa.org/walkforwarmth. Published: Fri, Feb 3, 2012
