Speakers for 10th Annual Diversity event announced

The Oakland County Employment Diversity Council's 10th Annual Diversity Conference will feature Anne Doyle, an award-winning sports broadcaster, one of the first female sports broadcasters, a leader in securing equal access for female journalists in sports locker rooms, lecturer and author; and Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Phyllis McMillen. In addition, there will be entertaining music by Tola Lewis and a theater performance on the topic of diversity and inclusion. The diversity conference will be held Thursday, July 12, at the Centerpoint Marriott in Pontiac. This year's theme--"Diversity and Inclusion 2012--It Works"--focuses on how an increasing number of businesses are incorporating diversity into their strategic planning processes and creating more diverse and inclusive workforces that are meeting the competitive challenges in today's global economy. The conference will open with Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson proclaiming July 12 as a "Day of Diversity." "Having a diverse and inclusive workforce has become the price of entry for any organization seeking to attract the best talent. The information to be shared by our roster of speakers and panelists will help companies in attendance do just that," said R. Frank Russell, chairman of the Oakland County Employment Diversity Council. The conference will feature the sharing of Diversity best practices from experts and specialists in the corporate, government and non-profit sectors with experience in creating and promoting diverse and inclusive work environments. "There will be a significant amount of information about diversity and inclusion and workplace best practices for everyone who attends," said Laura Robb, conference co-chairperson and member, OCEDC board of directors. The OCEDC 10th Annual Diversity Conference is open to the public. Registration begins at 8:15 a.m., is $75 per person and includes a continental breakfast and a full lunch.
