Detroit man found guilty in landlord's slaying

DETROIT (AP) -- A Detroit lottery winner has been convicted in the shooting death of his daughter's landlord. The Wayne County prosecutor's office says a jury found Freddie Young guilty Monday of second-degree murder and using a firearm during a felony. The 45-year-old Greg McNicol was slain in May 2011 outside an apartment building he owned. Authorities say McNichol was arguing with Young's adult daughter about two months of unpaid rent. Young's lottery club shared a $46.5 million jackpot in February 2011. Each member was to have received about $1.6 million through a cash payout. A judge temporarily froze Young's money after McNicol's widow filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Young. Young is scheduled for sentencing Aug. 1 before Circuit Court Judge Linda Parker. He faces up to life in prison. Published: Wed, Jul 18, 2012
