Oakland County and NACo collaborate to make technology available to counties across America
The National Association of Counties (NACo) in partnership with Oakland County is launching the NACo Application Store in pilot form. The application store, which will be hosted on Oakland County'as innovative G2G Cloud Solutions, will make the best of government technology available via catalogue to county governments around the nation. NACo will announced this leap forward in government shared services and technology at its 77th Annual Conference and Exposition in Pittsburgh last week.
The pilot program will include six local counties--Oakland, Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, St. Clair, and Washtenaw. Also participating will be San Diego County, Calif.; Stearns County, Minn.; Strafford County, N.H.; and the County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania.
Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson announced the collaboration between Oakland County and NACo in his 2012 State of the County address:
"Because of our trailblazing leadership in cloud computing, I am proud to announce... a first-of-its-kind partnership between Oakland County and the National Association of Counties to create a national catalogue of applications available for use by other public entities around the country," said Patterson. "Cloud computing will create opportunities for... governments to collaborate and to lower the cost of using and owning technology."
The 2012 NACo Annual Conference and Exposition ran July 13-17 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh. For additional information, go to www.NACo.org.
