State AG brings charge in mortgage processor probe

GRAND RAPIDS (AP) -- Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette has brought a racketeering charge against the former president of a mortgage document processing company. Lorraine Brown is charged with one count of conducting criminal enterprises, or racketeering, in Kent County's 61st District Court. The attorney general's office says Brown authorized the fraudulent signing of mortgage documents filed in Michigan. Schuette said Monday that arrangements were being made for the Alpharetta, Ga., resident to surrender to Michigan authorities. An arraignment will be scheduled at a later date. The charge she's facing is a 20-year felony. Last week, Brown pleaded guilty to a federal charge in Florida and reached a plea agreement on related state charges in Missouri. A message seeking comment on the Michigan charges was left for Brown's lawyer on Monday. Published: Wed, Nov 28, 2012
