Fire & Ice Festival making snow for the weekend

The Fire & Ice Festival in Rochester is taking advantage of the cold temperatures to make snow for its annual family-friendly event which kicks off Friday evening. Approximately 300,000 cubic feet of snow was made in the overnight hours and throughout the day Tuesday. Additional snow will be made until there is ample snow for the festival. Trucks are delivering the snow to the event site to crews who are spreading it over the grounds. In addition, crews are putting the finishing touches on the ice rink, building the tube sledding hill, and setting up other amenities on the Fire & Ice Festival site. The Fire & Ice Festival begins the evening of Friday, Jan. 25, and ends Sunday afternoon. This free three-day event has fun-filled activities such as tube sledding, dog sledding, snow shoeing, cross-country skiing, and ice skating. There will also be a fireworks display on Friday and Saturday; ice sculptures lining Main Street; the Big, Bright Light Show; and TasteFest.
