Charges dismissed in Detroit riverboat shooting

DETROIT (AP) -- Charges have been dismissed against a woman in a shooting outside a Detroit riverboat. Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Megan Maher Brennan last Friday dismissed two counts each of assault with intent to murder, assault with intent to do great bodily harm and felonious assault against LaDon Richard. Weapons charges also were dismissed. Brennan ruled there was insufficient evidence presented during Richard's preliminary examination to bind the case to the higher court. Prosecutors say they are reviewing the case to determine whether to appeal. Six riverboat passengers were wounded in August 2012 after a fight aboard the Detroit Princess. Latoiya Mitchell-Thomas was expected to be sentenced Monday on a concealed weapon charge. Her husband, Michael Thomas, got 2 years' probation for felonious assault.
