Trial starts, gag ordered issued in family attack

PONTIAC (AP) -- Jury selection has begun for the trial of a young suburban Detroit man in the baseball bat attack that killed his father and injured his mother and teenage brother. Twenty-year-old Tucker Cipriano and 21-year-old co-defendant Mitchell Young are on trial in Oakland County Circuit Court in Pontiac. They're charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder in the April 16, 2012, attack that left 52-year-old Robert Cipriano dead in the family's Farmington Hills home. His wife Rose and their son Sal were injured. Prosecutors say the defendants were smoking synthetic marijuana and were seeking drugs and money when they attacked. Jury selection began Monday, and Judge Shalina Kumar has ordered all witnesses and other interested parties to refrain from talking to the news media. Lawyers can still speak publicly.
