Woman pleads guilty to embezzling from firm

BAY CITY (AP) -- A woman has pleaded guilty to embezzling a six-figure sum from a Bay City law firm where she worked for more than a decade. Kathryn Charbonneau made the plea on Tuesday to one count of embezzlement of $100,000 or more. The 50-year-old Portsmouth Township resident's trial was to begin the same day. MLive.com reports Charbonneau must pay restitution, though the amount she owes is yet to be determined by the Bay County Probation Department. She didn't elaborate on her guilt, only answering the judge's yes-or-no questions and saying she previously worked for the firm of Rieman & Reyes and embezzled more than $100,000 between Jan. 1, 2001 and June 8, 2012. Charbonneau is free on bond pending sentencing, which is scheduled for Sept. 9. Published: Thu, Jul 25, 2013
