Legal Aid and Defender, Oakland County Bar sponsoring help desk
Legal Aid and Defender Association, Inc. (LAD) and the Oakland County Bar Association (OCBA) are jointly sponsoring a help desk for pro se litigants on the fourth Thursday of every month from noon to 2 p.m. in the lobby of the north entrance of the Oakland County Courthouse, 1200 N. Telegraph Road in Pontiac.
Pro se litigants--litigants acting as their own attorneys--can obtain legal information and referrals at the help desk on a first-come, first-served basis from LAD staff attorneys or attorneys in private or corporate practice who are volunteering their time pro bono. Litigants who are eligible for LAD services can also receive legal advice.
"Court officials can't provide legal advice or referrals to pro se litigants," said Kelly Bidelman, managing attorney of LAD's Oakland County office in Pontiac. "However, the help desk can provide timely legal information and referrals to these litigants. And we're helping the court by reducing officials' workloads."
For additional information on the help desk, call LAD's Oakland County office at 248-253-1548.
