Nominations due April 15 for Mich. senior award

LANSING (AP) -- The nominating period is open for the Senior Citizen of the Year Award in Michigan. Two older state residents are selected annually to receive the award for their outstanding volunteerism in the categories of community leadership and service to others. The award recipients will be honored at a ceremony during Older Michiganians Day June 3 at the state Capitol. Each winner will receive $1,500, courtesy of Consumers Energy. Nominations are accepted from businesses, community service and faith-based organizations, associations and other public and private entities. Those who are 60 or older are eligible for nomination for the uncompensated work they performed over the past year. Nominations are due April 15 to the Michigan Office of Services to the Aging.
