County officials to announce Gun Safety Awareness Day

Members of the Oakland County Board of Commissioners’ Public Services Committee’s Curbing Gun Violence Study Group, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, and the National Project ChildSafe organization, along with more than 25 law enforcement agencies from Oakland County and the Oakland County Board of Commissioners will announce the June 5 Gun Safety Awareness Day and Free Gun Safety Lock Giveaway program.

On Tuesday, June 2, at 2 p.m. in the Oakland County Board of Commissioners Auditorium, located at 1200 North Telegraph Road in Pontiac, members of the media will have an opportunity to ask questions about the Gun Safety Lock Giveaway program for Gun Safety Awareness Day and learn about the ongoing efforts of the Curbing Gun Violence Study Group for Oakland County.

The media will also have an opportunity to view locally produced  30 second Curbing Gun Violence Safety Lock public service announcement promoting the national Project ChildSafe effort, sponsored by the Oakland County Board of Commissioners and a new video produced by the National Shooting and Sports Foundation promoting gun safety. The media will have the opportunity to ask questions of elected officials and law enforcement leaders.

County officials will distribute the free cable-style gun locks provided courtesy of National Project ChildSafe/National Shooting and Sports Foundation to the local law agencies organization present at the News Conference and will give insight and valuable information about the June 5 Gun Safety Awareness Day program.

The news conference is open to the public.
