Center offers mediation trainings from learning to application

For anyone intrigued by the idea of being a mediator or seeking additional mediation training, Oakland Mediation Center (OMC) offers 40-Hour Domestic and Civil Mediation Trainings as well as Advanced Mediator Training to any individual who wishes to learn and enhance their skills to assist others with their disputes. Mediation training enhances participants' skill sets and marketability, allows those involved to be eligible for the court roster list of approved mediators, and improves communication and negotiating skills personally and professionally.

The "40-Hour Civil Mediation Training" will teach participants the skills necessary to act as mediators in facilitating the resolution of civil disputes from the initial consultation to writing the mediation agreement. OMC's upcoming training will be held July 23, 30, August 6, 13, and 20 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Cost for the training is $1,095 and includes a detailed mediation manual, jump-drive containing reproducible mediation forms, certificate of attendance, breakfast, lunch and refreshments. Participants can receive $200 off the training fee if they register by Tuesday, June 24.

The "40-Hour Domestic Relations Mediation Training" is a 6-day, highly interactive training designed to teach participants the skills necessary to act as mediators in facilitating the resolution of divorce and custody issues. OMC's upcoming training will be held September 11, 18, 25, October 2, 9, and 16 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Cost for the training is $1,390 and includes the State Court Administrative Office (SCAO) required 8-Hour Domestic Violence Screening Training for mediators, detailed mediation manual, jump-drive containing reproducible mediation forms, certificate of attendance, breakfast, lunch and refreshments. Participants can receive $200 off the training fee if they register by Tuesday, August 11.

"OMC's mission is to help the community peacefully resolve conflict through mediation and education," said Bonnie Hanes, OMC executive director. "These trainings teach powerful skills and techniques to resolve conflict and prevent escalation. By resolving conflicts, we are all creating a more peaceful community."

OMC's trainings are approved by the State Court Administrative Office and are designed to be highly interactive and skill based.
