Mother gets life in prison in killing, dismemberment

MOUNT CLEMENS (AP) - A judge ordered a no-parole life sentence Tuesday for a suburban Detroit woman convicted of killing her adult son, dismembering him and dumping the body parts.

Donna Scrivo's life sentence was mandatory for first-degree murder, although Macomb County Judge Richard Caretti said the punishment doesn't seem to be enough.

"The horrific nature of your offense is mind-boggling," he told Scrivo.

Bags containing parts of Ramsay Scrivo, 32, were found in January 2014 in St. Clair County, northeast of Detroit. His 61-year-old mother, a nurse, had reported him missing a few days earlier.

Prosecutors accused Scrivo of drugging Ramsay and strangling him. She claimed a masked man killed her son and forced her to cut up the body.

"I came to trial hoping for a non-guilty verdict," Scrivo told the judge, adding that she and her son had been "very close."

Speaking for about 15 minutes, Scrivo said jurors were "tainted" because they probably knew too much about the highly publicized case.

At trial, Scrivo said she had problems and wasn't "mother of the year."

Besides first-degree murder, she was convicted of mutilation of a body and moving a body without permission.
