Patriot Week resolutions approved by officials

Both the Michigan State Senate and Michigan State House have declared September 11-17, 2011 as Michigan Patriot Week. Oakland County and Macomb County commissioners joined the State House and Senate. Patriot Week is also spreading across the country with Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker and South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley having proclaimed Patriot Week in their respective states. Patriot Week was co-created by Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Michael Warren and his now 16-year old daughter Leah.

“We really appreciate the breadth of leadership,” said Leah Warren. “Patriot Week excites students and citizens in general to learn about – and celebrate – what makes America the greatest nation in world history.”

“All Americans need to take time to remember what keeps us free, and Patriot Week is vital to renewing the American spirit,” remarked Judge Warren. “If we are to maintain our liberty in a free republic, our citizens must have a deeply rooted understanding of our Constitution, its generating history, and its underlying First Principles. Approval of these resolutions is an important step in maintaining our free republic.”

Patriot Week renews America’s spirit by celebrating the First Principles, Founding Fathers and other patriots, vital documents and speeches, and flags that make America the greatest nation in world history. Patriot Week is anchored by the key dates of September 11 (the anniversary of the terrorist attacks) and September 17 (Constitution Day, the anniversary of when the United States Constitution was signed).

Patriot Week is celebrated in Michigan and across the country in K-12 schools, colleges, law schools, libraries, community organizations, government agencies, and others.

Upcoming Patriot Week events open to the public include a Constitution Day Commemoration - Law Enforcement Appreciation through Prayer program, constitutional debates, community college discussions, and others. Several public events have already occurred, and many schools are involved.

The public events, lesson plans, and additional information can be found at PatriotWeek.org.
