CHARLEVOIX, Mich. (AP) - The Michigan appeals court has ruled in favor of a lawyer who with his sons inherited millions of dollars from a client.
A Charlevoix County judge threw out the will in 2013, saying Mark Papazian's role violated rules of professional conduct. But in a 2-1 decision last Friday, the appeals court said the will could stand - if the lawyer can overcome claims of undue influence.
The case now returns to Charlevoix.
Robert Mardigian was divorced and had no children when he died in 2012. He was Papazian's friend and client and left more than $14 million to the Detroit-area lawyer and two sons.
The will is being challenged by Mardigian's brother, Edward, and his children.
