Donation to boost textbook loan program for student veterans

ROCHESTER HILLS (AP) - A $20,000 donation to Oakland University will help the suburban Detroit school expand its textbook loan program for student veterans and their dependents.

The school announced the anonymous donation last week.

Launched earlier this year, the program encourages students, faculty and staff to donate gently used books in exchange for a T-shirt that reads "Support OUr Veterans." The $20,000 gift will fund the purchase of additional textbooks and also support incentives for the program.

The school says it has more than 300 veterans as students on campus.

Oakland University's campus spans more than 1,400 acres in the Oakland County cities of Auburn Hills and Rochester Hills.
