Fund raising continues for Old Newsboys' Goodfellow Fund

The Old Newsboys' Goodfellow Fund of Detroit continues its annual fundraising efforts and today announces that it has raised $906,968 to date, representing 82% of its 2015 fundraising goal of $1.1 million. The local charity hopes to meet its goal by the end of its fiscal year on January 31, 2016.

"We are well on our way of reaching this year's goal thanks to the generosity of the metro Detroit community and we hope to do so in this final stretch of fundraising," said Nancy Foran, president of the Detroit Goodfellows. "The solid support we receive enables us to realize our mission of 'no kiddie without a Christmas' year after year."

With all donations collected, the Detroit Goodfellows annually distribute 34,000 holiday gift packages through Detroit police precincts to needy children in Detroit, Hamtramck, Highland Park, Harper Woods and River Rouge. This year 8,000 dolls were given to little girls aged 5 - 9 as part of the Goodfellow gift packages containing books, warm clothes, toys and candy. Four-year-old boys and girls received a teddy bear as part of theirs. It is estimated that two out of every three Detroit public schoolchildren receives a Detroit Goodfellows holiday gift box.
