District judge plans run for state Supreme Court

DEARBORN HEIGHTS (AP) - A Dearborn Heights district judge is running for a spot on the Michigan Supreme Court.

Mark Plawecki, who announced his candidacy Wednesday, has more than 20 years of experience as a trial judge. He currently is chief judge of the 20th District in Wayne County.

Plawecki, whose wife Julie is a Democratic state lawmaker, says he is an "ardent constitutionalist" and faithful to the state and federal constitutions. In his free time, he has written a book about baseball pitchers.

He is seeking the Democratic nomination to challenge Justice Joan Larsen in the November election to serve through 2018. Larsen was appointed to the seven-member court last year by Republican Gov. Rick Snyder.

Democrats will choose their Supreme Court candidates at a nominating convention, likely in the summer.
