The U.S. District Court, the Eastern District of Michigan Chapter of the Federal Bar Association, and the Wolverine Bar Association jointly hosted a Law Day open house on Monday, May 2, at the Theodore Levin U.S. Courthouse in Detroit.  The theme of Law Day 2016 was “Miranda, More Than Words.”  U.S. District Court Chief Judge Denise Page Hood (far right) happily praised the hard work of event committee members (left to right) U.S. District Court Magistrate Judge David Grand; Amy Johnston of Miller, Canfield, Paddock, &?Stone PLC; John M. Sier of Kitch, Drutchas, Wagner, Valittuti, and Sherbrook; and Assistant U.S. Attorney Susan Fairchild.  Also on the committee, but not pictured, was Megan McGown of Oakland County Circuit Court.  The open house featured courthouse tours, an “Ask the Lawyer”?pro bono program, free hot dogs and chips, and agency displays.  “Law Day is an opportunity for the federal agencies and the federal court to open the doors for high school students to come and learn a little bit more about what the federal courts do, what they’re about, and career opportunities in law enforcement and other federal agencies” Sier said.  Since this year is the 50th anniversary of Miranda v Arizona, Sier added that “There will be panel discussions with regard to interactions with police, and how citizens should behave when confronted with police or requested for information by the police.”
