No charges in how paper got video of court attack

LANSING (AP) - No charges will be filed in how a newspaper obtained courtroom video of a man who pulled a metal shank from his sleeve and tried to attack a Lansing-area prosecutor.

The Lansing State Journal says prosecutor Charles Sherman has closed the matter.

In a court filing, Ingham County Judge Rosemarie Aquilina revealed that she had allowed the State Journal to make a video recording of the video. She said the video was widely accessible to courthouse staff and wasn't designated as evidence.

The incident occurred in August in a different courtroom where Joshua Harding was on trial for sexual abuse. The video shows a prosecutor getting out of the way at the last second while a police detective tackles Harding.

Harding has been charged with attempted murder.
