Michigan State Police adding 13 motor carrier officers this week

EAST LANSING (AP) - Michigan State Police officials say they are adding more than a dozen new officers to help with commercial vehicle enforcement.

The state police held a graduation ceremony last Friday in East Lansing for 13 motor carrier officers. The officers, who will be armed and uniformed, recently completed 20 weeks of training as part of the 21st Motor Carrier Officer Recruit School.

The officers conduct vehicle and driver inspections, as well as enforce size and weight restrictions and hazardous material regulations.

The recruits will report to posts across the state in the coming days.
