Sales tax seminars offered for Michigan small businesses

The Michigan Department of Treasury is hosting several sales tax outreach seminars across the state to provide insight to and receive feedback from small businesses.

These seminars are ideal for owners of gas stations, convenience stores, wine, beer and liquor stores or other small businesses. Treasury Outreach Team members will be providing an overview of the sales tax filing process, the ins and outs of auditing and how to appeal an audit decision, including dedicating a portion of the session to taxpayer questions and suggestions.

“Treasury wants to listen and learn about the sales tax issues affecting Michigan’s small businesses,” said Deputy Treasurer Glenn White, head of Treasury’s Tax Administration Group. “Small businesses can receive extra attention and help at these seminars. Taxpayers will gain valuable information and insight by attending.”

The Treasury Outreach Team members will be visiting the Detroit area on Wednesday, June 21, from 10 a.m. to noon at Henry Ford College, Andrew A. Mazzara Administrative Services and Conference Center, Building L – Berry Auditorium, 5101 Evergreen Road in Dearborn.

Additional seminar sessions will be offered in Flint, Kalamazoo, Lansing and other cities throughout the year.

Treasury is looking for other topic suggestions and locations for future outreach seminars. Suggestions should be directed to TreasuryOutreach@michigan.gov.
