Exhibit marks 50th anniversary of Tigers championship run

DETROIT (AP) - A new exhibit opening this month at the Detroit Historical Museum commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Detroit Tigers winning baseball's World Series in 1968.

"The Year of the Tiger: 1968 " weaves together stories about the players, manager, stadium and events leading up to the victory. For the exhibition, the Detroit Historical Society has been collecting photos of people in Tigers gear or at games during the 1968 season.

The Tigers' championship run took place a year after deadly rioting in Detroit in 1967 and amid social unrest nationally following the assassinations of Martin Luther King Jr. and Sen. Robert Kennedy in 1968.

An opening reception for the exhibition is planned for April 20. It opens to the public on April 21 and admission for the public opening is free.
