Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Michael Warren recently presented to kindergarten through 12th grade educators at Clarenceville High School in Livonia. Convened by Learning to Give, Warren and three panelists from other non-profits presented different approaches that citizens can take to be more involved with the non-profit community.
Warren explained steps that teachers and their students can make through Patriot Week to better learn about our country’s Founding First Principles and America’s history. He pointed to resources available on Patriot Week’s website to assist in teaching and volunteer opportunities, such as lesson plans, videos, classroom activities, and the ability to request guest speakers.
“Patriot Week is a wonderful teachable moment,” Warren explained, “It enables students to embrace our historical commitment to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness by analyzing the Founders, First Principles, and key historical documents.”
“Unlike any other nation in history, America has been founded on First Principles that are to guide us. We can teach students to renew America by celebrating and honoring those First Principles for which so many have sacrificed.”
Patriot Week, co-founded in 2009 by Warren and his daughter Leah, is a grassroots effort that seeks to renew the spirit of America and reinvigorate the idea of civic duty. Patriot Week is held from September 11th to September 17th every year across the nation. The two anchor dates represent historical events that have had a monumental impact on America, the 11th being the day of the terrorist attacks and the 17th which is the anniversary of signing the Constitution.
