Board to host community town hall on county election process

The Ad Hoc Committee on Oakland County Election Infrastructure invites the public to attend a community town hall meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. Members of the committee are seeking public input to improve Oakland County’s election process. The meeting will be held in the Southfield City Council Chambers at City Hall (Municipal Building), located at 26000 Evergreen Road in Southfield. Residents who are unable to attend the town hall meeting can still share their story by submitting a voter incident report on the Oakland County Board of Commissioner’s website at www.oakgov.com/boc.

The committee, a bi-partisan panel of four county commissioners, was established in response to reports of ballot shortages and significant delays at polling locations throughout the county during the primary election on August 7. The town hall is one of four meetings held by the committee, which is tasked with reviewing issues related to Oakland County’s election infrastructure, seeking public input, and making recommendations for improvements for future elections.

“We look forward to hearing from members of our community about their experience on election day,” said co-chair Commissioner Nancy Quarles (D-Southfield). “The more we learn about the issues voters faced at the polls, the better equipped we are to find solutions to improve the election process in the future.”

“The town hall meeting is intended to give a platform for members of our communities to voice their opinion on the issue,” said co-chair Commissioner Tom J. Berman (R-Keego Harbor). “We’ll take the feedback we receive from the town hall and use it to provide recommendations.”
