Five incumbent Circuit Court judges sworn in

On Tuesday, Dec. 4, Oakland County Circuit Court Judges (left to right) Michael Warren, Leo Bowman, Phyllis  McMillen, Denise Langford Morris, and Karen McDonald were officially sworn in to office after getting re-elected in November to subsequent six-year terms beginning on January 1, 2019.  Retiring Judge Wendy Potts (far right) swore in the five incumbent judges at the conclusion of her last Circuit Judges meeting.

Oakland County Circuit Court Judges Denise Langford Morris, Michael Warren, Leo Bowman, Phyllis C. McMillen, and Karen McDonald were officially sworn in to office for their next terms as judges of the Oakland County Circuit Court. Retiring Judge Wendy Potts swore in the five incumbent judges at the conclusion of her last Circuit Judges meeting on Dec. 4.  These five judges were re-elected in November to subsequent six-year terms beginning on January 1, 2019.  Between the five judges, they have 67 years of service as judges on the Oakland County bench.

Langford Morris, the dean of the bench, first joined the Circuit Court in 1992 and has been re-elected for four subsequent terms.  She is the first African American to serve on the Oakland County Circuit Court bench.  Langford Morris is a former assistant prosecuting attorney for Oakland County and a former United States assistant district attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan. 

Warren was appointed to the Circuit Court in 2002 and was elected in 2004 and re-elected in 2006, 2012, and 2018.  He was the first supporter and initial pilot judge to engage in the eFiling program.  Warren is co-founder of Patriot Week and is a former board member and secretary of the State Board of Education.

Bowman was appointed to the Circuit Court in 2007, elected in 2008, and was re-elected in 2012 and 2018.  Bowman is the first African American male to serve as a permanent member of the circuit bench.  Prior to joining the Circuit Court, he served as a 50th District Court judge for 19 years, and served as chief judge for eight years. 

McMillen was appointed to the Circuit Court in 2010, elected in 2012, and re-elected in 2018.  Prior to serving on the Circuit Court, she was a judge of the 51st District Court in Waterford for over 15 years. She is a past president of the Oakland County District Judges Association and the Michigan District Judges Association. 

McDonald joined the bench in 2012 and was re-elected in 2018.  She is a former Oakland County assistant prosecuting attorney and former private practice attorney. McDonald is a member of the Foster Care Review Board Program Advisory Committee and a member of the Human Trafficking Protocol Revision Committee.
