Augustus Straker Bar Association, the Association of Black Judges of Michigan, and the Wolverine Bar Association co-sponsored the 26th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Drum Major for Justice Oral Advocacy Competition on Saturday, May 18, at Wayne State University Law School. Among those taking part were (left to right) Competition Chair Joline Davis, Oakland County 46th District Court Judge Debra Nance, Kimberley Ann Ward, finalist Elizabeth Ajaero of University High School Academy, Michael Jackson, finalist Kayla Gooden of University High School Academy, Vassal Johnson II, finalist Isaiah Wimberly of Communications &?Media Arts, Wayne County Probate Court Judge Terrance Keith, finalist Kirsten Godfrey of University High School Academy, Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Noah P. Hood, finalist Donovan Rogers of University High School Academy, Peter Hammer, Wayne County 36th District Court?Judge Demetria Brue, Nikkiya Branch, Jehan Crump-Gibson, Wayne County Probate Court Judge David A. Perkins, and Tiffany Buckley-Norwood. The purpose of the competition is to promote oral advocacy among high school students and encourage them to develop and improve their analytical and writing skills.
