ANN ARBOR (AP) — The University of Michigan’s Board of Regents has approved a 1.9% tuition increase for state residents starting in the fall.
The board last week also approved a 3.7% tuition hike for out-of-state students.
The increases will put freshman tuition and fees for Michigan residents at $15,558, up from $15,262 in 2018. Students from outside Michigan will pay $51,176 per year, up from $49,326 last year.
Rates were increased by 3.2% for graduate students, putting tuition and fees at about $762 for in-state students and $1,526 for out-of-state students for the most common graduate rate.
The tuition increase was approved unanimously by the board without any discussion.
The tuition increase is the lowest the Michigan board has approved in six years. Each of the past two years, the university approved 2.9% tuition increases for in-state students.
