Board of Commissioners chairman resigns

On Wednesday, Oakland County Board Chairman David T. Woodward (D-Royal Oak) resigned from his position as county commissioner. Woodward represented the 19th county commission district, which includes the City of Berkley and the majority of the City of Royal Oak. Commissioner Marcia Gershenson (D-Bloomfield Township) will assume the role of acting board chairperson.

The board may appoint a successor within 30 days from today’s date who would serve for the remainder of Woodward’s term. The individual must be a resident and registered voter within the 19th county commission district. If the board does not make an appointment, a special election will be held. No decisions have been made regarding an appointment at this time.

Woodward was elected as chairman of the board in January 2019. He was first elected to the board in November 2004.
