Brown a finalist for Route Fifty 2019 Awards

For the fourth year, Route Fifty will recognize a group of innovators in state and local government who are reinventing government services across the country. Oakland County Clerk/Register of Deeds Lisa Brown was selected as a finalist in The Electeds category for her work to combat deed fraud.

The publication received hundreds of nominations from readers, selecting 10 finalists for the 2019 Navigator Awards in each of five categories: The Electeds, The Leaders, The Tech Innovators, The Next Generation and The Allies. These leaders are working on solutions for all kinds of problems, from a state plan to help people save for their retirements to finding ways to bridge the digital divide.

“I’m humbled to be in the company of dedicated, innovative elected leaders who are doing great work for their constituents,” said Brown. “As the only finalist from Michigan in The Electeds category, it’s an honor to be recognized.”

Five winners—one in each category—will be announced in a ceremony at the National League of Cities’ annual City Summit in San Antonio this week.

Brown is currently serving her second term as Oakland County Clerk/Register of Deeds. She pioneered the county’s Property Record Notification (PRN) system which was a 2016 Achievement Award Winner in the Civic Education and Public Information category by the National Association of Counties.  The PRN system alerts homeowners any time a document pertaining to their specific property is recorded at the Oakland County Register of Deeds Office. The free service notifies property owners about potentially fraudulent activity such as forged deeds and bogus liens that have been filed on their property without their knowledge. Individuals can use the Super Index and/or sign up for PRN at www.ocmideeds.com.

Route Fifty is a digital news publication from Atlantic Media’s Government Executive Media Group, which also publishes Government Executive magazine, GovExec, Nextgov and Defense One. Initially launched as www.govexec.com’s State & Local channel in July 2014, Route Fifty expanded to a standalone Government Executive Media Group digital publication, RouteFifty.com, in April 2015.
