The Civil Rights Law Section of the Federal Bar Association, Eastern District of Michigan Chapter, will present “Making a Federal (Civil Rights) Case Out of Evictions” from noon to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 7. The Lunch and Learn will take place at the Theodore Levin Courthouse, 231 W. Lafayette, Room 115, in Detroit.
U.S. District Court Judge Judith E. Levy, Eastern District of Michigan, will moderate the program. Panelists will include Wayne County 36th Judicial District Court Chief Judge Nancy M. Blount; Elizabeth Benton, principal investigator, UM Poverty Solutions; Steve Tomkowiak, executive director, Fair Housing Center of Metro Detroit; and Heidi Naasko, pro bono and diversity counsel, Dykema LLC.
Admission and lunch are free to FBA members and law students. Lunch is available for $10 for all others. Register in advance at www.fbamich.org or contact Susan.DeClercq@usdoj.gov or 313-226-9149. Doors open for lunch at noon and the program begins at 12:15 p.m. Non-attorneys are not permitted to bring cell phones into court facilities.
