TRAVERSE CITY (AP) - A former California man pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the slaying of a homeless man in northern Michigan.
Joshua Vandehoef entered his plea last Thursday in 13th Circuit Court, according to the Traverse City Record-Eagle. Sentencing is scheduled for April 24.
The body of James Chisholm, 62, was found May 29 by hikers about 15 yards from Boardman Lake in Traverse City. His throat had been slashed.
Police believe Chisholm had been in the area about three weeks. He had been living in a tent.
Vandehoef, 19, was arrested in July.
GPS readings from Vandehoef's phone put him within meters of where Chisholm's body was found, the newspaper reported.
TV station WWTV, citing court documents, had reported that Vandehoef admitted his role to someone on Snapchat and said he walked home and washed blood off himself.
