OCBA plans a pair of online seminars

The Oakland County Bar Association has scheduled a pair of seminars, via Zoom, in April.

“The OCBA cares about our members and during this time of unprecedented change, we want to ensure you have the tools you need to transition your practice,” said a spokesperson for the OCBA. “To that end, we are waiving all seminar fees for OCBA members through June 2020 and we have asked some of our members to share their expertise in areas that are important to you. We will keep you informed of new programs as more become available.”

On Tuesday, April 14 from noon to 1 p.m., “Tips and Tricks for a Paper-light Mobile Practice” will be presented by Megan McKnight of Tealstone Law PLC.

“Now that your office-based practice has become home-based, you may find yourself in need of advice on what equipment is available to help you work efficiently in your new environment,” the OCBA spokesperson said. “Attorney Megan McKnight will share her favorite tools that help her run her practice without paper (well, almost). Grab your lunch and join her online for this informative Zoom meeting.”

On Friday, April 17, the OCBA will present “Practice Pointers for Conducting a Virtual Deposition” from noon to 1 p.m. Grace Dersa of U.S. Legal Support will present the seminar.

“Although most attorneys are home-based for the time being, discovery schedules move along,” said the OCBA spokesperson. “Virtual depositions are one tool to assist busy litigators by bringing together all the interested parties in the same ‘room.’ This program will guide you through the process – everything from logging into the secure website to swearing in the witness to introducing and sharing documents. If you have never taken part in one or are reluctant to conduct one, this program provides a great opportunity to review the virtual deposition process.”
