Attorney Darren Grow files for judge of the 45th District Court

Oak Park attorney Darren Grow has filed to run for Oakland County 45th District Court judge. The seat serves the residents of Huntington Woods, Oak Park, Pleasant Ridge and Royal Oak Township, and is currently held by Judge David Gubow. Gubow will not seek re-election at the end of his current term.

“Judge Gubow has a long history of service to our community, and I wish him well as he moves on to a new chapter in his life,” said Grow.

“The 45th District Court serves a diverse population,” Grow continued. “Growing up, my parents emphasized inclusion and acceptance. Now, at a time in our country’s history when we face so much divisiveness, I will serve the people of the 45th District Court by fairly enforcing the laws of the State of Michigan and the communities of the 45th District Court with a unifying philosophy and a steady hand.”

Grow’s family moved to Oak Park from Detroit in 1979. Following high school, he attended Yale University where he earned a B.A. in History. His love and dedication to the state, especially the metropolitan Detroit area, prompted him to return to Michigan where he earned a law degree from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law.

Grow began his legal career with a probate firm before starting his own law practice. In addition to running his own practice, Grow also owned and operated a live music venue and served as director of the Downtown Development Authority for one of Michigan’s most diverse business communities.

“I am excited to use my experiences in the practice of law, economic development and as a small business owner to bring a new, more inclusive perspective to the bench,” Grow said. “The path that led me to where I am today gives me a greater understanding of our community, our concerns and the issues our area families and businesses face on a regular basis.”

Throughout his legal career, Grow has represented people of all racial, religious, gender/sexual orientation, and economic backgrounds.

Grow and his wife Heatherley reside in Oak Park with their four cats, Stanley, Edgar Allen, Josey Wales and Maggie Mae, and their turtle, Nerdle.
