'Micro-Inequities' focus of online workshop

The Diversity & Inclusion Committee of the Oakland County Bar Association will present the second part of its three-part workshop series titled “Diversity, Equity & Inclusion: From Awareness to Action.” On Thursday, January 14, “Micro-Inequities: What are They, How to Spot and Talk About Them” will be offered from noon to 1:30 p.m.

In an effort to provide meaningful and practical D&I education and tools, the OCBA is excited to bring in two experts, Cheryl Thompson and Margaret Baxter from the Center for Automotive Diversity, Inclusion & Advancement.

Micro-Inequities are subtle actions that single out, marginalize, devalue or overlook an individual. They have a chilling effect on the individual and the team. The second part of this series will explore the effect micro-inequities have on the workplace and discuss how to address them.

The workshop is scheduled to take place online via Zoom. Details on how to join the Zoom meeting will be distributed in a separate email to those who pre-register.

Cost to attend is $15 for OCBA members or $30 for non-members. Space is limited. To register, visit www.ocba.org and click on “events.”

The final workshop, “How to Be an Ally: Standing Beside and Up for Women, People of Color, LGBTQ, and Other Unrepresented Groups,” will take place Thursday, March 11, from noon to 1:30 p.m.
