As the 20 Days of Scams holiday consumer protection effort comes to a close, Michigan Attorney General Nessel is encouraging Michiganders to continue to be vigilant and report scams they come across to the Department’s Consumer Protection team.
“Scammers are relentless, and consumers should be vigilant not just during the holiday season, but every day of the year,” Nessel said. “If you find yourself the victim of a scam, let my office know about it. By providing as much relevant information as possible, you can help ensure that my team has the ability to thoroughly investigate a report and – if warranted – take the appropriate action to protect other residents from falling victim to the same scheme.”
Some of the information consumers will be required to provide when filing a complaint include their name, address, contact information, the time of the incident and additional details about the person or entity that is the subject of the complaint.
Filing a complaint online (www.michigan.gov/ag) is the best way to provide a comprehensive report to the Attorney General’s Office and ensure investigators have the information they need. If a consumer is unable to fill out an online complaint, they can call the toll-free Consumer Protection hotline at 877-765-8388 and staff will provide a hard copy form to fill out and return.
