Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer joined the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) on Thursday to announce that beverage manufacturer Niagara Bottling is establishing a new facility in Shelby Township with support from the Michigan Strategic Fund.
The project is expected to generate a total capital investment of up to $103.6 million and create at least 50 jobs, supported by a $350,000 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant. Niagara chose Michigan for the project over competing sites in other states.
“This investment by Niagara Bottling will create at least 50 good-paying manufacturing jobs in Shelby Township, and underscores our talented manufacturing workforce and at-tractive business climate,” said Whitmer. “Michigan’s economy is on the move with low unemployment, the highest small business growth in 24 years, and powerful economic development tools. Together, we will continue investing in our workers, every region of our great state, and in innovative businesses so they can thrive. Our future is bright, and today’s expansion by Niagara Bottling will help us continue moving Michigan forward.”

In order to service customers more effectively in the Detroit region, Niagara plans to construct a new highly automated manufacturing facility in Shelby Township, utilizing state-of-the-art equipment and technology. The facility will be the company’s first location in Michigan. Shelby Township plans to make water and sewer infrastructure improvements in support of the project.
“Niagara Bottling has established strong business and community relationships through-out our numerous plant locations, and we look forward to continued growth and success at our new facility in Shelby Township, Michigan,” said Brian Hess, executive vice presi-dent at Niagara Bottling. “We appreciate the Detroit region’s strong legacy of manufacturing, and highly attractive combination of location, infrastructure, logistics, and workforce.
